STUDY OPTION 1
Continued Professional Development

Praxis can be used as a stand alone course, for CPD/top up training or as blended learning e.g. Newcastle University is utilising Praxis CBT to prepare and support Newcastle University/NTW Trust IAPT High Intensity trainees. Praxis can be studied in single modules with or without University accreditation. Many people choose to study Praxis to inform their CBT practice as part of their Continued Professional Development (CPD). A certificate of attendance is provided on completion for those choosing this option.

STUDY OPTION 2
Post Graduate Certificate

Praxis is working in partnership with The School of Psychology, Faculty of Medical Sciences at Newcastle University to allow participants on modules to receive academic credits. This has lead to the development of a 60 credit online Postgraduate Certificate in CBT.

The following 20 credit modules makes up the Praxis PGCert - Fundamentals of CBT, CBT for Depression and CBT for Anxiety Disorders. Fees and entry criteria for the PGCert differ from the Praxis CPD version. Enrolment requires a university application which can be obtained by contacting Ruth.Brewis@ntw.nhs.uk. Each module requires a 4000 word assignment to be passed. The Praxis PGCert has three enrolment dates per academic year and can be started in September, January or June.

If you are a healthcare professional looking to gain skills in CBT, then this online training programme is for you. It will give you all you need to get started in the CBT field in a straightforward yet stimulating and highly interactive way, using a step-by-step approach. Higher Education Institutions can purchase an annual licence to provide the programme to learners registered with their university. PRAXIS CBT is IAPT 'high intensity' compatible having used the CBT Competences Framework and NICE Guidelines to develop its content.

CBT training paper published using Praxis CBT
by PRAXIS CBT - Monday, 7 October 2013, 10:46 AM
CBT training paper published using Praxis CBT in collaboration between Northumberland Tyne & Wear NHS Foundation Trust and University of Sydney.

Bennett-Levy, J., Hawkins, R., Perry, H., Cromarty, P., Mills, J. (2012). Online Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Training for Therapists: Outcomes, Acceptability, and Impact of Support. Australian Psychologist 47. 174–182

This randomised controlled study assessed the effects of online CBT training to determine what differences might exist between a group supported by regular telephone contact and an independent group who undertook online training without additional support. In addition it examined the acceptability of online CBT training among ‘rural and remote’ mental health professionals. Praxis was used as the 12-week online CBT training program for the study. The supported training group had a significantly higher program completion rate than the independent group although both group participants evaluated the program favourably. The results suggest that online CBT training represents a promising and cost-effective approach to training the mental health workforce, and may be particularly attractive for those who live in regional, rural, and remote communities.
